And if you want to hear a track where I *really* went crazy with similar ideas (but a different vibe), check out one of my personal faves from this past #jamuary :

Jamuary 13 25 - Moon Jelly Blacksmith

I love how weird and spacey Lydian mode can sound, especially with the right textures. That wasn’t weird enough on its own, so I put things in 5/4 time. That *still* wasn’t weird enough, so I switched

SoundCloud

- a lot of the bits of ear candy vacillate between happening in the 4/4 meter and the 7/8 meter

The overall result is a slightly "drifty" feel (I hope) where it might be a bit hard to fully nail down what is going on, but the 4/4 drums keep things on track.

This was a fun little project, I hope you enjoy it!

A couple of fun notes about Dotted Pots:

- The additional percussion that comes in around 0:55 is a bunch of sounds I recorded off of one of my moka pots

- All of the delays in the track are set to dotted 8th notes, creating the baseline syncopation in the track

- The synth that comes in at 0:20 is playing mostly dotted 4th notes throughout, but in 7/8 time. The polymeter is subtle bc it melts into the syncopation!

Does anybody else here get so into music that your keys end up being super exotic sometimes?

I wrote instruments for a song last night...

In the sixth mode of a Bebop scale.

So much symmetry, so much tension :-)

Four majors, Four minors, and...

A dim and Aug on the tonic!!!

So many possibilities here.

Oh, and please listen to my new album!

https://rythur.bandcamp.com

Oh, and the song has an odd measure dance break. Lol.

So much to learn and so little time..

In music theory, the bridge is the B section of a 32-bar form. This section has a significantly different melody from the rest of the song and usually occurs after the second "A" section in the AABA song form. It is also called a middle eight because it happens in the middle of the song and the length is generally eight bars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thirty-two-bar_form#Middle_eight

Oh this is *well* cool,

"The Euclidean Algorithm Generates Traditional Musical Rhythms"

So elegant the title says everything - the oldest algorithm in history for the greatest common divisor covers most #rhythm lines in the world.

Humans like even distributions
