Can anyone tell me why there are no big artists on Bandcamp? I wanted to use it as my main app for listening to music but many artists I like are not on there… I heard that their labels prevent them from putting their music on Bandcamp. But that doesn’t make sense to me. Selling music on Bandcamp is financially better for artists and labels than streaming services like Spotify, right?

Clarifying labels: Jazz, rock, funk and jazz‐rock

Rock and jazz historically share some similar origins (gospel music, work songs and the blues), but they represent divergent lines. Jazz employs aspects of formal European concert music and steers away from vocals, being a primarily instrumental form of music. Blues styles and rock emphasize vocals and stick largely to elementary compositional forms such as the four chord, twelve-bar blues, while jazz is characterized by intricacy comparable to that of twentieth century symphonic music.
While the blues line and rock line became part of the popular music mainstream, jazz acquired a status resembling that of classical chamber music in that it was followed only by a small and specialized audience.
