Musical Interlude: I adore Janet Klein and her retro-jazz stylings of music from the teens, twenties, and thirties. Plus she just seems like a nice lady; I remember during the COVID lockdown she hosted several Zoom chats where she would sing a few tunes and show vintage cartoons, often with a chat from an animation historian or the like. Charming as anything! Here she is with a slightly naught little ditty.

Musical Interlude: Swedish composer Lars-Erik Larsson had a great idea...create some accessible modern music pieces for community orchestras to use when they have a guest artist. His series of "concertinos" are notable for their relatively simple orchestral backing with relatively complex instrumental solos; a chance for a guest artiste to show their stuff. They're charming works and it's nice to think of a composer who worked to provide community orchestras with material.

Musical Interlude: I adore fiddler Bruce Molsky, who does difficult tunes with amazing ease. For a while, he had a band called Molsky's Mountain Drifters, who I was lucky enough to see live multiple times. Here's an uplifting tune for the difficult times we're having.

Musical Interlude: Dickey Chappelle is a person we need a movie about. A photojournalist and war correspondent, she blazed trails for other women and was noted for her fearlessness in combat situations. She was famous for her uniform of fatigues, harlequin glasses, and pearl earrings, and won the respect of the Marines she was with. She was sadly killed by a land mine in Vietnam, and was given a full Marine funeral. And in recent years, she was named an honorary Marine. I learned of her from this song by Nanci Griffith.

Musical Interlude: It was a beautiful day today...clear and breezy. And when we were celebrating my home purchase at closing, they played "Celebrate" by Kool & the Gang, which is all well and good, but I would have much preferred this wonderful tune, a longtime favorite.

Musical Interlude: I was introduced to this artist today, via an episode of "Mountain Stage," and I loved this tribute to a town I know, and even mentioning a place I've hiked. I need to learn more about him.

Musical Interlude: This song started running through my head today, while watching a rainstorm pass through the area. It is kind of a rain-y song, with that backbeat. Thankfully, the clouds passed and we got the first sun in a week....
