This is one of my favorite Japanese bands, mostly #jazz but also known for their funky groove. The three founders and principals, MiMi, Emi and Rina, are seasoned session musicians that formed Tokyo Groove Jyoshi in 2018. Since then the band has established itself in the international touring band universe, and played with a number of add’l musicians, like their talented Sax player, Harumo Imai. Voilà, here’s a cover of one of my favourites from Sufjan Stevens — “I Should Have Known Better”. To fit the instagram algorithm I cut it in half (I kid — the song modulates to chords I weren’t ready for yet.) Also, my exploration of DaVinci Resolve led me to effects today, so I made an over the top kind of rotoscoped version of the video.
