Military expert #Marco_Eklund believes that the renovated garrison could become a base for the new #44th Army Corps, formed in #Karelia in 2024. This would mean the potential deployment of an additional approximately 15,000 soldiers in the region.

#Russia's northern #Murmansk region is under a state of #emergency after a strong winter storm damaged the aging power grid, leaving parts of the region without electricity for days.
The storm damaged five transmission towers on Friday, cutting power to parts of the cities of Murmansk and Severomorsk. Authorities have since launched a criminal investigation into possible negligence.

Ale jest też ciekawostka: Murmańsk to największe miasto za kołem polarnym. O bardzo szybkim spadku liczby ludności: z prawie 500.000 do 280.000 (40%) w 30 lat. No jakoś nikt nie chce mieszkać w Arktyce bez światła i ogrzewania.

Districts of #Moscow without #heating, #Murmansk and #Severomorsk without #electricity, #Belgorod, #Bryansk and #Taganrog in full #utilities #collapse – while the #Kremlin burnt billions to destroy Ukrainian #infrastructure, their own fell apart without many and proper #maintenance.
There is also no electricity in #Severomorsk due to an accident in the power supply networks. The massive outage also affected the main naval base of the #Northern_Fleet.
The authorities of the #Murmansk region called the power outage a "rotation of consumers", explaining this by the need to evenly distribute the load with limited network capacity.
