Muriel Grossmann combines a level of soulful restlessness with her smooth and groovy flow and an exceptional ensemble work to create a gripping and dynamic form of spiritual jazz.

Muriel Grossmann is an Austrian saxophonist whose music has strong spiritual jazz tones steeped in unmistakable John Coltrane influences. She shares a similar sense of restlessness that has been guiding her work since the late '00s. Fluidity is a key component of her style, as she keeps herself on the move, shifting around rhythmically and rarely settling into a steady riff for long. She also woks with a strong ensemble, which makes it even easier to get transfixed with her music end to end. She has been quite consistent in terms of her stylistic choices and artistic output over the years. That said, there are times when she turns her intensity down a few notches to add a playful, warm, and at times, funky dimension to her music, some examples of which can be found in her 2024 album The Light of Mind.
Happy International Jazz Day to those who celebrate!
