Welcome, everyone, to today's pre AGM discussion. We're the second of December 2024. This is the Internet Society UK chapter. We've got our AGM in about one hour's time. But prior to that, we thought
#Multistakeholder sounds nice and fair.
But in the domain of state-sponsored governance forums, it tends to imply something deeply sinister:
#Multistakeholderism is when they invite the wolf to the lambs' table to democratically vote on what's for dinner.
Therefore:
#Multistakeholder debates on public interest issues must be viewed with skepticism as to their legitimacy.
And supplemented (or better supplanted) with alternative forums from civil society.
Also, the phrase "#multistakeholder" issues pertaining to the internet perpetuates a dangerous (and rather irksome) myth.
There are no "multistakeholder" issues pertaining to the right to free and open int'l telecommunication.
That's just a code phrase for usurpation of public interest.
Even though civil society does consist of multiple stakeholders, that's not what this means.
#Multistakeholderism is a way to invite the wolf to the lambs' table to democratically vote on what's for dinner.
