It defines catalog fields for transport-stream track description and specifies receiver and relay behavior for joining, switching, and validating packetized streams.

Now that #Dolby has launched a #patent lawsuit over #AV1, unless I'm mistaken we're about to have a repeat of the #Unisys #GIF patent situation where all #browser⁠s must remove support for widely-used image and video formats, namely AV1, #AVIF, #WebP, #WebM, #VP8, and #VP9.

This is really bad. The only other widely supported video codec is #MPEG-4 (which is also patented) and the only other widely supported lossy image format is #JPEG (which is rather inefficient).

What do we do?

FFmpeg 8.1 brings MPEG-H 3D Audio Decoding support via the libmpeghdec library. MPEG-H 3D Audio is an advanced, immersive audio standard developed by Fraunhofer IIS that provides 3D sound—including height channels—for television, streaming, and VR.

It's interesting how prominent are the macroblock artifacts around the rotation of the ball during passes. You'd think somehow the NFL or NBC would be able to massage that in the signal going to the compressor. Every shot is remarkably consistent in the artifact presentation. #video #mpeg #superbowl
