Protagonist has somehow survived a monumental ass-beating. They are limping along a footpath/sidewalk when they see this chair, they slump down onto it, they take a ciggie out and struggle to light it with trembling hands. Then they take a deep long drag and just as they're about to blow the smoke out, all four legs of the chair give way and they fall down ass-first. They start bursting out into teary laughter.
