Happy Friday and happy #LetterboxdFriday here’s what I watched this week.

Raging Bull - I’m still pretty mid on most Scorsese, but you can’t deny this looks good

Puppet Master 5 - it’s puppet master 4 all over again

Hamlet!! - maybe you don’t want to watch an all-woman Japanese rock opera version of Hamlet, but I don’t understand why

Memory Hole - Animals are Over saw with a live crowd and only had some nightmares

Kung Fu Hustle - a joyful rewatch because of #MovieClub

#LetterboxdFriday!

Kung Fu Hustle (2004) - 4.5
Greatly fun #MovieClub pick.

O.C. and Stiggs (1987) - 4.5
80's teen movie as only Altman could do. Anarchy.

Tuner (2025) - 4
Crime thriller-lite for "they don't make 'em like that anymore" crowd.

The Dirty Look (1954) - 4
Gulf Oil training video as only Altman could do.

The Death of Robin Hood (2026) - 4.5
Beautiful story about stories we tell about others and ourselves.

Terminator Genisys (2015) - 2
Better than Salvation isn't saying much.

An action-packed movie that's incredibly cartoonish and fun from start to finish!

(The very beginning, following the butterfly through to the titles, and with that music, reminded me of Men in Black (1997). Just thought I'd share.)

Very excited to move onto Kung Fu Hustle (2004). I adore that movie, though my first Chow love is with Shaolin Soccer (2001) #MovieClub

Most striking thing about the movie to me was the music. Incredibly effective, even from the jump when the vocals kicked in when the music credit appeared (shoutout to Walter Schumann, who also did the Dragnet theme).

I also adored Rachel Cooper's character. I admire her clear-eyed view of the world and how she doesn't let anything cloud it.

Only other stray thoughts are that underwater shot is absolutely incredible and I was going to say I was impressed by how transgressive it is until I double-checked the year it was made. I think it feels that way because it's depicting something much older and more conservative #MovieClub
