I originally borrowed @noel.swails (on Instagram) lens to photograph the northern lights but they didn’t show up again so I ended up using it for the Alps instead.

I’m a complete beginner when it comes to landscape photography so I wasn’t expecting much. But looking at the photos now, I’m honestly surprised by how well they turned out. There was something incredibly refreshing about carrying almost no weight and still being able to capture moments that felt special. The snow made everything look softer, brighter, and more peaceful.

It felt good to step out of my comfort zone and try something new especially since I haven’t been in the mood to post animals lately. So here’s a little change of scenery.
I’m happy I took the chance, happy I tried and even happier that these images let me share a bit of that quiet winter magic with y‘all💜❄️

Last week I spent the whole week offline. This week Im feeling it's the best thing Ive done for my mental health in a long time. This is your online reminder to take offline breaks; enjoy the natural world!

I truly value staying connected with you all globally, but there is something unnatural for sure receiving so much of a negative news feed. Being based in the US, in the current dumpster fire it is, it's been interesting connecting, reading & seeing more global perspectives on Mastodon, and the fediverse overall. I am around a diverse enough group of people locally, offline, to recognize how much varying information we receive based on where we choose to look. This community is playing an important role in shaping the future voices to be in the world. Thank you for being here.

Photos are from recent attempt to summit Mt Baker. Furthest I have solo ski climbed on glacial terrain this late in the year. Strong wind pushed me back, varying dense clouds circled around, found enough reasons to turn around. Words I found as a kid "respect the mountain, the mountain will respect you." Remember to carry that which you value into the future. Cheers to the future we will bring!

Lots of rain and thunderstorm on Thursday last week, so I delayed my departure from the Zillertal to have enough time for another adventure on Friday.

I got up early, took the train to Mayrhofen at 06:52 and transferred onto a bus via mountaineering village Ginzling to the Schlegeisspeicher where I started my hike at 08:30.

After roughly 70 walking minutes I reached the Olperer hut at 2388 metres above the Adriatic.
Afterwards my round trip, the Neumarkter Runde, continued over a ridge into a spacious cirque and back down again. Because there were far less people on this route than usual, it really was a an amazing atmosphere.

Before the bus back to Mayrhofen departed, I enjoyed a fast - but nevertheless delicious - meal at the Dominikushütte, where I also had a pleasant chat with the inn keeper.

Duration: 3 hours and 10 minutes (excluding various breaks accumulating to 1 hour and 20 minutes)

Elevation: 1785 m to 2435 m
Ascent/Descent: 675 m ↑ and 675 m ↓
