Some thoughts about community from a Twitter refugee. I was told to find a #Mastodon instance that represented my community. The problem is, I have several. #Space #geeks, #science, #astronomy, and #geospatial all perhaps fit into a single community if you squint enough. But what about #mountain_lovers, #endurance athletes, and #adventurers? How about people with the same odd sense of "British" humor I share? Then throw in the #SFF fandom folks... it becomes difficult to define the boundaries of "my community" is.

After a while, I had a lot of this on the bird site. My first 48 hours on Mastodon has shown me that I can meet some interesting and kind folks, but it's going to take a while before I can find the same hyperspecialized niche.

They say it's the journey that's the destination...
