My good firiend and New Leaf Journal colleague, @VictorVGurbo , names all of his video game protagonists "RICHARD NIXON." Knowing this, my attention was arrested when I saw a "NIXON" truck driving down Court Street in Downtown Brooklyn on July 9, 2021. Fortunately, my Motorola Moto e6 was ready to go, and I captured the moment on camera.

For those of you interested in the area, the building directly across the street on the left side of the photo is Brooklyn Borough Hall, the civic center of New York City's largest borough. The building across the street at the top of the photo is the Brooklyn Municipal Building. Sadly, despite these magisterial buildings, the area has fallen into some disrepair the last couple of years.

The rubber duck swims on... the beach?

I took this photo on July 5, 2021, with the Open Camera App on my Motorola Moto e6. The location is Hudson Avenue in Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn, a scenic street I visited here on Pixelfed once before (see second link).

Last summer, I encountered these UFO-esque mushrooms growing on a lawn outside of a housing project in Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn. Does anyone know what is growing here? Mysterious stuff.

(If anyone knows, I will addend my article and credit the tipster therein.)

Seen last August - a lamppost/streetlight teetering on the brink of collapse after a summer storm in Brooklyn, New York. The location is Imlay Street in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook. Imlay is sparsely populated and lined with massive old factories and warehouses that are gradually being converted into apartments and office space (the process is not too far along yet). One notable attraction just off Imlay is one of New York City's ferry terminals.

Seen in Red Hook, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. The "BQE" refers to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, which unsurprisingly connects NYC's two largest boroughs, Brooklyn and Queens. I rank Ohio's attempt to lure businesses from NYC as "tough, but fair," as the BQE is a crumbling monstrosity and an atrocity against aesthetics. See below for relevant article link and two PF posts with BQE-related content in the photos.

I photographed this very pretty pigeon (the one in the background is not too shabby either) on Pierrepoint and Cadman Plaza West at the border of Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn. The late afternoon August sun adds to the photo. I wrote a bit about the find in an article.

But does Uncle Susan wear sheep's clothing? I found this graffiti scribbled in the Gowanus, a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York City. I posted the photo in an article wherein I undertook an investigation of the meaning and source of "Uncle Susan is a Wolf." While I did not find definitive answers, I did compile a list of recorded sightings from all across the United States.

"King Baby" graffiti is popping up all over the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Gowanus, Carroll Gardens, and Columbia Street Waterfront District. It sometimes appears in sticker-form, as it did here. If you scroll down on my Pixelfed, you will find an example of King Baby on a truck. What's happening here? In my article on the King Baby sticker pictured here, which I found on 9th Street in Gowanus, I investigated a bit and found that the man behind King Baby appears to have had his start in California.
