Another great album with very accessible tracks and a great band. Almost the same musicians as Roxy Elswere, except Ralph Humphrey. This album has the peculiar appearance of Johnny Guitar Watson singing a chorus and Zappa's school friend, Captain Beefheart, playing harp.

No doubt the Grand Wazoo era was a close chapter, but this new era is a golden one, with records such as Over-Nite Sensation, Apostrophe, Roxy & Elswere, and closing with One Size Fits All.

Firstly, I want to tell a true story about this album and the following one, "Burnt Weeny Sandwich". Both of these records have a very sentimental meaning to me, not only for the music but also for the way they came into my collection.

I got these two records from my friend, whose brother was killed some years ago. The family kept his room as he had left it before he died.
His brother was a Zappa fan, and one day, my friend came to visit me and brought me these two records that he had left behind.
He told me he knew I would take good care of them, and he was happy to offer them to me as he knew his brother was a Zappa freak like me.
He knows for a fact that his brother's records couldn't be in better hands!
So there you go... a sentimental story attached to those two records.

Let's go to the specifics...
Uncle Meat is one of the most ambitious and experimental releases from Zappa and The Mothers of Invention. Originally conceived as part of a film project that never came out, this double album goes beyond traditional rock, blending jazz, orchestral arrangements, spoken word, and avant-garde sound collage into a complex and unpredictable listening experience.
A completely new era starts here!

Released in 1969, it captures the band at a turning point, shifting towards Zappa’s more into composition approach. Tracks like “King Kong” and “Dog Breath, in the Year of the Plague” highlight the album’s mix of very tight musicianship.

This is not an easy listen, but that’s exactly what makes it stand out.
Uncle Meat remains a key piece in the Zappa catalogue and a landmark of late 60s innovation.

Released on Verve Records, Freak Out! is widely considered one of the first concept albums in rock music. It blends doo-wop, avant-garde experimentation, satire, and social commentary into something completely unconventional for its time.

Zappa pushed boundaries, both musically and lyrically taking influence from composers like Edgard Varèse while still rooted in American pop culture.

The result is chaotic but intentional, mixing structured songs with abstract sound collages.

Tracks like “Hungry Freaks, Daddy” and “Trouble Every Day” show the more direct side, while pieces like “The Return of the Son of Monster Magnet” go fully experimental.

This album set the tone for everything that followed in Zappa’s career... unpredictable, critical, and never conforming.

Cruising with Ruben & the Jets is the fourth album by the Mothers of Invention, and fifth overall by Frank Zappa, released under the alias Ruben and the Jets. Released on December 2, 1968 on Bizarre and Verve Records..

Music critic Simon Reynolds has written numerous times about the album. He originally remarked that Cruising with Ruben & the Jets was one of the earliest forerunners to the '50s rock and roll revival, stating: "He [Zappa] was very on it early. It really becomes – – a lot of glam and glitter music was based around 50s rock and roll imagery. There was a whole lot of songs wistfully looking back to the idea that the early days of rock and roll was innocent and more wild." - Wikipedia

Have no idea how some Americans will ever understand how abhorrent the US leadership has become and crucially, witness the vast number of supporters including people who flock to get into ICE and the numbers of Americans who are now war profiteers. Think of how many people are making hand over fist dollars, from outfitting our own law enforcement as military overlords against us. Then there are those making untold billions from supplying actual war machines all over the world. We even funded enormous tech powers against our whole population. Bio identification at airports, doorbell cameras, Flock with its recording of all vehicle traffic, police and ICE and the many allied law enforcement people can and do routinely use vast databases of most citizens and and switch on surveillance of communication, no matter what type. Then there are the people who profit by trying to dominate social media selling something that may or may not be a “product” or services. Think of how the US leadership in power came together quickly, maybe 24 hours, when Charlie Kirk, a religious White Nationalist who went after college students who are voters, in TurningPoint USA, was murdered publicly. This whole country was supposed to honor this man as a martyr and an extravaganza of a memorial service came together in less than a week. President and VP prominent speakers, white faith leaders preaching away, crowds of crying white people, maybe all fashionably dressed and ready for their national spotlight cameos. At this point those who have White privilege and don’t notice it every day may never get it—because it is now oozed into a badge of identity, of honor and pride. One is a Good Guy because Others are the bad guys. This is by design and has been for decades and hundreds of years now in the USA. There are far more Others now and people have fallen into the spell of Fear and Loathing. Seek security in Power at all costs. There are a lot of Others all these profiteers and charlatans and grifters and scammers and spies and snitches are coming down at from every angle. Who among us are going to approve these methods and goals presented by Power and Money? I have fear because that point of view is now pervasive overt reality, and acceptable now. Churches manufacture morality and the seal of approval to support the State and the State is happy to be guided by the Church. The White Christian Nationalists and Prosperity Churches that profit from conformity and Power. Fran Zappa was right because (“Who Can Imagine”) It Can’t Happen Here. If you’ve never heard it , give a listen and be sure to listen to the discordant sounds that because a complete wave. 1966 warning was spot on with all these songs of Freak Out warning of all these things happening NOW all over the US. SIXTY YEARS AGO!
