Black and white tesserae edging the steps leading up to an 1850s townhouse in the Park District of Glasgow. I suspect these are a later addition as the original steps would have been sandstone, but they are still a nice design touch.

Sorry for the reflections. This is a #backsplash that I made about 20 years ago. It was inspired by #mosaics, but is itself a #tesselation of rhombui in marble. Taking a picture of it now because my wife was never a fan of it (too ornate) and with the possibility of swapping out the gas stove its days in the kitchen may be numbered.

Zu den bekanntesten Szenen der Villa Romana del Casale gehören das „Bikinimädchen“-Mosaik und die „Große Jagd“. Beide zeigen Bewegung und Alltagsnähe: junge Frauen beim sportlichen Wettkampf, Jäger und Tiere in weitläufiger Landschaft. Die Motive wirken überraschend lebendig und detailreich für ihre Zeit.

Die Villa Romana del Casale bei Piazza Armerina ist eine der am besten erhaltenen römischen Villen auf Sizilien. Besonders ihre Fußbodenmosaiken geben Einblick in den Alltag und die Lebenswelt einer wohlhabenden spätantiken Oberschicht. Formen und Farben zeigen eine Verbindung zwischen antiker Handwerkskunst und römischer Bildtradition.
