Yesterday's #wassailing.
Led by the #Eynsham #Morris, villagers processed through the orchard banging pots and pans to scare evil spirits, and singing to wake the apple trees and encourage them to produce a good harvest.

Spicy cider was readily available to everyone present, warmed on a roaring fire. And toast was hung in the trees - a gift for the good spirits. The birds will be pleased. 😀

The #Whittlesey #StrawBear is a quaint yet somewhat #pagan custom in a small town near where I live, in which a man and a boy dress up in straw costumes and parade through the streets, accompanied by various #Morris and #Molly dancers, and a few thousand slightly drunken onlookers.

On Sunday the bears are ceremonially burned, in a vaguely #WickerMan-ish way, though I'm told they let the occupants out first.
