It's been a while since I reported on our own #boat. Before coming to Cheshire I did manage to call in on the #mooring and remove the #heaters from her as, with any luck, there won't be any more #cold snaps that justify trying to stop the boat from #freezing.

She really is beginning to look as if she needs a really good #clean. We had promised ourselves she'd be lifted out last #winter = but the house move got in the way and it was never arranged.

I was looking at the invoice for my mooring fees.

It's a price per foot per day.

Sometimes it makes sense that boats pay by the foot, like for blacking (painting) the hull. Or for insurance, … maybe.

But in other cases it doesn't make sense to me.

I'm not entirely sure that licensing a boat should be priced by the foot.

Up to that bridge in the distance, this stretch of canal would have boats moored here—for a few days or up to 2 weeks. It's near shops, bus stops, bins, and a water point.

But in a greedy miscalculation, Canal & River Trust put up a sign, and now this stretch is empty: "Winter mooring permit holders between 1 November—28 February." Nobody bought winter permits; nobody else can stop here to moor. It's a waste.

Life took an unexpected turn. 😥

The boat is "temporarily" in a marina. I need to get back to it, but I think it could be months.

The marina has no long-term mooring available, but the marina staff is kindly moving the boat for me from spot to spot as boats come and go on trips. The rate to sublet is costlier, but needs must.

Okay, this is actually a close up of a mooring on the canal, catching evening light, but I thought it looked like a wee sculpture of the mathematical symbol, Pi, and was begging for a monochrome shot.
