Tony, a Monterey Parks employee, was one of many people who used the bike-and-ride option of Monterey-Salinas Transit to get to the MST bus stop on Del Monte at Camino Aguajito in Monterey today. This was a very convenient bus stop for people going to Window on the Bay Park for the #NoKings gathering.

"During a campaign to improve the trail 20-some years ago, the Don Chapin Company donated gates and a portable toilet on the San Benito County side—which they continue to service, gratis, decades later. Chapin is hopeful about a current push by leaders at the California Welcome Center in Salinas to revive the trail and make it into more of an attraction.

“People go to the Peninsula all the time, but there is so much to do and see in our community,’ Chapin says.”

“'Seth Pollack spent his life teaching people how to see clearly – to look past easy narratives, sit with complexity, and do the hard work of understanding. It is a painful irony that in the days after his death, the story of how he died became one of those easy, inaccurate narratives.'

"They [Pollack’s family] are referring to a CHP [California Highway Patrol] statement immediately following the crash that Pollack was on the wrong side of the street, later determined to be unfounded.”

Our sympathy to the family and friends of Linda Theresse Munoz of Salinas.

Linda suffered fatal injuries after being struck on her bicycle by a truck, and then by two additional vehicles, while biking in Salinas on March 14.

We have no details on this collision so can’t comment about the circumstances except to say: #KSBW’s report https://www.ksbw.com/article/bicyclist-struck-killed-salinas-california/70760894 mentions she was biking “in dark clothing.” High visibility apparel is not required by law, and while we do suggest it (https://bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tourists/more-bicycle-safety-gear), being visible can’t protect you from drivers who are texting, speeding, under the influence, etc.—as we experienced and pointed out last week https://sfba.social/@bikemonterey/116219787478611800.

We don’t know if Linda’s bicycle had the equipment required by California law for biking in the dark (see #9 in our Calif bike law summary https://bikemonterey.org/wp-content/uploads/Bike-law-summary-2025.pdf).

Why support local bike shops (e.g., in Monterey County, https://bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tourists/need-something-maam)?

Here’s one reason: When Cycle House Bike Co. owner Stacy heard about this 14-year-old’s situation, she was moved to help. Report from
