Nice road bike ride and farm stand visit yesterday.

We did a nice 36 mile road bike ride on the Monterey Recreation trail yesterday morning from the Monterey Wharf, south to the Pacific Grove Lighthouse then back through Monterey and north to Castroville turning around at the Pezzini Farm stand.

The photo is from the Pezzini Farm stand yesterday near Castroville CA, the so called “Artichoke Capital of the World". The Pezzini family farm is well known for their Heirloom Green Globe artichokes.

There are several farm stands between Moss Landing and Marina on highway 1. Pezzini is the biggest and nicest, in my opinion, with lots of fresh vegetables and fruit with a few other items. It's well worth a stop. It’s also has easy access with highway 1 off and on ramps. I have no relation to them BTW, other than being a customer for many years on our way back from Monterey.

"Bay Area construction company illegally polluted river, lawsuit alleges.” Rpt by Paul Rogers, #MontereyHerald.

Graniterock, "based in Watsonville, has more than 20 offices and locations, incl in San Jose, Concord, Redwood City, South San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Salinas….Lawsuit...stated that the company has been fined four times since 2018 by state #WaterPollution regulators at #CentralCoast Regional Water Quality Control Board. In those cases, settlements required #Graniterock to pay a total of $138K in penalties for water quality violations at the quarry.

"For each of the 46 incidents involved, the board imposed the minimum penalty of $3K, the lawsuit noted, calling it 'tantamount to a #PayToPollute system' for a company with millions of $ in annual revenue.

#Pajaro #River, which drains a watershed that extends across parts of #SantaClara, #Monterey, #SanBenito & #SantaCruz counties, meanders through strawberry and other farm fields before emptying into #MontereyBay.”

Monterey Regional KMRY → San Francisco International KSFO

Because it was so much fun the day before, this time I went again with the Pilatus PC-12. From the Pacific coast, I headed inland, flying along the western edge of the Central Valley. On the way to San Francisco, I passed over the Bay and the Salt Ponds, which still shimmer in stunning colors.

Vandenberg Space Force Base KVBG → Monterey Regional KMRY

Once again with an aircraft I haven’t flown before. With its 1,200 HP, the Pilatus PC-12NGX is definitively a class of its own. An exciting aircraft.

#SeaOtterClassic in #MontereyCounty, has a surprising new twist this year—no longer just about #bicycling.

History: Sea Otter Classic began in Monterey County in 1991, known the first two years as the Laguna Seca Challenge. It grew from a single day of bicycle racing to become a four-day Celebration of #Cycling. Sea Otter in #Monterey County is regarded as the #bicycle world’s premiere festival and one of the world’s largest. After more than 30 years of local ownership, SOC was acquired by Life Time, as announced summer 2021.

In 2026, under Life Time, that new twist. Per SOC: "Sea Otter Classic Trail #Run, scheduled for Saturday morning. #Runners can choose between a 17K (10.6 miles) course for experienced trail athletes and a 5K (2.8 miles) course designed for beginners, families and casual runners. Both races finish on the legendary Laguna Seca Raceway track, offering scenic views of the surrounding trails and Fort Ord landscape. Strollers are welcome on the 5K course.”
