My Ex-Roommate Was a Monitoring Spirit

She was a tiny older woman, about in her sixties. You never really think these… things can show up in such an endearing, vulnerable frame, but they don’t warn about judging a book by its cover for nothing.
The first day I moved into my new place, one of my roommates was eager to get close to me- a little too eager. Had this been the version of me who was open and overly trusting, I would have fell into her trap, but this new version, nope. She would constantly give me compliments: my nails, my tattoos, my outfits. It almost felt like whenever she gave these compliments, she was dissecting me in the process. At the beginning I didn’t really mind, but as an introvert, there’s nothing more I hate than a person who wants to be around me 24/7. I could love you with every fibre of my being, and still need personal space, and space wasn’t something this woman seemed to understand. If it was obvious I was getting ready to go somewhere and heading to the door, she’d almost seem ready to follow me. I would also try to politely brush her off whenever I’d be working on my computer in the kitchen with my headphones on, and she’d continue talking. I assumed maybe she just didn’t understand boundaries, till I tried to make it clear that I was busy, and that’s when her attitude shifted overnight.
