This is what attempting to enter text in a single form field looks like for me on iOS 26. Completely unusable. The "solve" for this is to adjust Safari preference so tabs are on "top."

Testing Mobile Safari on device using linux with ios-safari-remote-debug-kit

One thing that has been frustrating to me is how hard it is to test iOS devices when you no longer have a MacOS device and Safari to test on.

I stumbled upon ios-safari-remote-debug-kit which uses ios-webkit-debug-proxy to allow the inspector in Chromium. This ended up being straightforward despite the many dependencies listed on the latter. Mainly because I already had them with Slackware!

The only caveat is that I needed to allow Chromium write access to its files again. I removed write access to specific files in ~/.config/chromium for privacy, which Chromium complains about, but it still...

Finding that in iOS 26 Safari some page elements that are supposed to be drawn at the bottom of the screen (such as a floating "jump to top" button as used at lawyersgunsmoney.com) are being drawn halfway down the screen instead, obscuring content.

Requesting the "desktop site" causes the element to be drawn in the correct place.

The Listen to Page feature on Mobile Safari has been a lovely new addition to iOS. I’ve been using it since iOS 17 released and it has been great. The feature basically lets you listen to articles/posts opened in the Safari browser on iOS.

Safari has always had the Speech feature, which would let you select text on a web page and select Speech from the context menu. It sounded awful and there were no controls. If you accidentally selected a large text and select the Speech option, you’re screwed. I don’t remember if you could stop the Speech by closing the tab. Anyway, it was an awful implementation.

The new Listen to Page feature addresses all the issues with the previous inferior implementation.

Awesomeness

1. It shows user controls 🎉

2. It supports Dynamic Island 🏝️

3. You can end it, whenever ✅

4. And finally, the best part – It uses Siri’s voice! 🤖 It doesn’t feel robotic anymore.

if you’re like me and have a ton of articles that you need to catch up on, this would be the ideal way to go. You can basically listen to them all while commuting or exercising.

Ideally, I would like to make all of this seamless by using my “Read later” list to create a personal podcast for myself that I could listen to whenever. That way, any time I add a url to that folder on my bookmarks bar, it’d get picked up and added to my podcast for me to consume later. I haven’t done any kind of research on whether I can achieve this using SiriKit yet. Something like this could be a Safari extension or a basic iOS app.

Use Siri to listen to a webpage in Safari on iPhone

In Safari on iPhone, open a webpage and say something like “Hey Siri, listen to the page” to use Siri to hear the page aloud.

Apple Support

(Mobile) Safari's push notifications definitely aren't pretty at all 😅

It doesn't support custom `icon` and `image` attributes. It'll *always* show the app's icon and "from Phanpy" in the title. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/ServiceWorkerRegistration/showNotification

ServiceWorkerRegistration: showNotification() method - Web APIs | MDN

The showNotification() method of the ServiceWorkerRegistration interface creates a notification on an active service worker.

I hit the tab limit of 500 tabs in #MobileSafari!

And then I learned about a bunch of features that I didn’t know existed!

First learning: you can “copy links” and get links to all the tabs in a tab group.
