MN anti-war protesters successfully remove Army recruiters from career fair

Brooklyn Center, MN – On April 29, a career fair organized by Hennepin County at the quiet Brookdale Library became the scene of a successful action against the presence of U.S. military recruiters in communities. Roughly a dozen activists from the MN Anti-War Committee and the anti-war veterans’ organization About Face disrupted the fair with the demand that recruiters for both the U.S Army and the Minnesota Army National Guard leave immediately.

April 30, 1901: On this date Frank Oscar Aho was born in Floodwood, MN. He was a timber worker in the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). He fought in the Spanish Civil War in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, serving at Lecera, Caspe, Gandesa, & the Ebro Offensive. He was wounded in action at Gandesa and again at Corbera. He returned to the US on 12/15/1938 aboard the Paris. He died 2/10/1940 and is buried in Ely, MN.

Twin Cities community demands release of Salah Sarsour from ICE custody

Minneapolis, MN – On the evening of Saturday, April 25, 50 members of the Twin Cities community rallied downtown Minneapolis to demand the release of Salah Sarsour from ICE custody. Sarsour serves as president of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee and is a board member for American Muslims for Palestine. He has been an organizer for the Palestine movement in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for decades. Saturday’s protest was organized by the Twin Cities chapter of American Muslims for Palestine and the Minnesota Anti-War Committee.
