Social Revolutions of my Life - Indigenous Sovereignty

This post is Part 1 of a series on social revolutions of the past 30 years — examples where public consciousness has massively shifted in favor of liberation. My aim is to create space to pause and acknowledge how things have changed in ways that once felt impossible, remind us that things can always be otherwise. It is inspired in part by Rebecca Solnit’s 2016 edition of Hope in the Dark and David Graeber’s 2007 essay “The Shock of Victory. [...]

When we turn Zen into a pop-culture vibe or a totem pole into a corporate metaphor, we aren't learning; we're committing interpretative violence.

Remember to mourn the loss of countless indigenous lives through foreign disease, warfare with colonizers, having their kids kidnapped to be raised by white colonizers in their "Good Christian faith," having their women raped and sold into slavery along with the men. Also, mourn the loss of those who have been missing or murdered in our modern times.

It’s worth noting that #epstein is a #native and Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women And Relatives (#MMIWR) issue too.

Epstein had a huge compound in #NewMexico and it breaks my heart to know what happened in the mountains that I love. 💔

Sexual assault has always been the root of the sins of the United States. Colonization is the domination of land and the bodies on the land. May this be the reckoning we’ve been waiting centuries for. #timesup

Decenas de mujeres nativo americanas cada año son secuestradas en EUA.

Today, on the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Relatives (MMIW/R) we honor and remember the missing and murdered Indigenous relatives whose lives were stolen or remain unaccounted for. This crisis is not a coincidence—it’s the result of ongoing settler colonialism that devalues Indigenous life and fuels violence through systems of extraction and erasure. Man camps near oil pipelines and fossil fuel projects have been directly linked to increased rates of trafficking, assault, and disappearances of Indigenous women and relatives. These industries don’t just extract from the land—they extract from our bodies. Colonialism created the hypersexualization and fetishization of Native women, girls, and Two-Spirit relatives—weaponizing desire as domination. The violence we face is not random. It is systemic, it is sanctioned, and it is preventable. We demand more than awareness. We demand an end to extractive economies, an economy based on community care, and a world where our relatives are safe and free to be who they are. #MMIWR #NoMoreStolenSisters #JusticeForMMIWG2S #May5 #NationalDayForMMIWR

Powerful gathering tonight in Duluth at the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Relatives Concert & Art Show hosted by Native Lives Matter Twin Ports. We're tabling next to fellow water protectors at the Tamarack Water Alliance, collecting postcards to send to the Wisconsin governor asking he support the Bad River Band in shutting down Line 5. #ShutDownLine5 #MMIWR

The #MMIWR epidemic -- Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Relatives -- is connected to oil pipelines due to the pattern of increased human trafficking when pipeline workers come into communities.

The Three Waters Pipeline Resistance Team will be part of this concert and community gathering in #Duluth tomorrow. Please come join if you are in the area! #MMIW

Or if you're not in the Twin Ports, donate to the event hosts so they can keep their important work going: https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/d11c93b7-b212-4ead-af64-d669ac10088c

Tribes lack resources to recruit and retain law enforcement officers to address the crisis of #MMIWR and ensure public safety. Help pass the Parity for Tribal Law Enforcement Act (S. 2695 / H.R. 4524) so Tribes can protect their communities.
