Let’s remember Kiyoshi Kuromiya for his dedication to freedom and love. Kuromiya marched with Dr. King. He fought bigotry through the 1990s with creativity and persistence.

Kiyoshi Kuromiya — Yesterqueers

Kiyoshi Kuromiya started his activist career by marching with Martin Luther King, Jr and ended it by protesting the U.S. government’s plan to sanction countries that tried to make generic HIV medication available at low cost.

Capitalism does not permit the free flow of economic resources. It ensures a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That's the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system.

Thank you to Doctor King for fighting on our behalf. We carry the baton and might just see this thru.

From MLK's Letter from Birmingham Jail:
"Actually, we who engage in nonviolent direct action are not the creators of tension. We merely bring to the surface the hidden tension that is already alive. We bring it out in the open, where it can be seen and dealt with. Like a boil that can never be cured so long as it is covered up but must be opened with all its ugliness to the natural medicines of air and light, injustice must be exposed, with all the tension its exposure creates, to the light of human conscience and the air of national opinion before it can be cured."

An apt description of #BlackTwitter and #BlackMastodon - this is exactly what black folks have used social media from my personal observance.

But also why we must protest when injustice is abroad amongst us and our neighbors.

Take a few minutes today to read "Letters From A Birmingham Jail." Our actions today and tomorrow can be a part of the kind of mass nonviolent tension needed for change. Thank you, @[email protected], for making this openly available. www.africa.upenn.edu/Articles_Gen... #MLKJrDay

Letter from a Birmingham Jail ...
Letter from a Birmingham Jail [King, Jr.]

"When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights, are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, extreme materialism and militarism are incapable of being conquered."

#mlkjrday old protest sign, timeless message. Another favorite quote of mine from MLKjr: "The SILENCE of the good people is more DANGEROUS than the BRUTALITY of the bad people"

“Dr. King was not easy.”

MLK Jr. clashed with our systems of oppression. He demanded change. His courage stands in stark contrast with the cowardice of people like Pete Hegseth, Marco Rubio, the guy in the White House, ICE agents who can’t even handle teasing by a couple of women.

On this holiday we remember a man who organized for the sake of all working people. So much respect. I hope you’ll take up the baton.
