Steam Powered Frisbee 🥏Red Sox have traded slugging prospect Nick Yorke (ranked 11th best player in the Red Sox pipeline) for rookie Pirates pitcher Quinn Priester.
Besides having a fun name to say with a Boston accent, Priester's numbers so far in the majors have been mediocre. A closer look, though, shows he is effective against righties - see stats below (from FanGraphs).
The Sox badly need reliable bullpen arms, and this guy is young and inexpensive: age 23, and not a free agent until 2030. On the other hand, the Sox sent away one of their best trading chips. Both players were drafted in the first round.
At first glance, it looks like Pittsburgh got more value from the trade. I'd be interested in what #PittsburghPirates fans think.
Red Sox re-acquire pitcher James Paxton from the #Dodgers. He's now Boston's only lefty starter.
Paxton's numbers have not been good this year. But I'm calling it now, this is gonna be like Ryan Brasier in reverse! He's gonna kick ass once he gets OUT of L.A.
