Он отделит экономический рост от труда и создаст несметные богатства. Именно этот нарратив мы регулярно встречаем. Эту байку использовали, чтобы привлечь столько долгов и инвестиций в ИИ, что мы, по сути, поставили на его успех всю экономику Запада. Но есть одна проблема: эта история - попросту ложь, и индустрия ИИ начинает постигать это на собственном горьком опыте. Возьмём Microsoft. С 2020 года компания вложила многие сотни миллиардов долларов в инфраструктуру ИИ и в OpenAI. Флагманский продукт этих колоссальных инвестиций - Copilot, агентный ИИ, призванный помогать вам выполнять задачи в Windows. Этакий Скрепыш на стероидах (боже, как я скучаю по Скрепышу; он был ужасен в лучшем смысле этого слова). И вот оказывается, что Copilot никто не покупает.

Maybe they're just lying. Maybe they're terrminally deluded, their brains permanently scrambled from too much money and too much untreated dysfunction and too much sycophancy. Maybe they're off in Cloud-Cuckoo Land with this talk of lucrative #space colonies by, like, 2050.

Or maybe, just maybe, they feel like they've got some other way to get there. The techno-optimists can afford to chuckle and crack jokes about shambolic SpaceX Starship launches, because maybe, just maybe, they know that where they're going, rockets aren't necessary.

Maybe "new physics" has gotten further along than we've been allowed to see. That stuff isn't for the public to see, not when #Caltech and #MIT and all the other high-powered research institutions have been hardwired into the military-industrial juggernaut of "the West". They tried to keep The Bomb™, that much simpler application of #physics, super-duper top secret to the point of absurdity.

If some physicists somewhere in the world invented the portal or the transporter any time in the last several decades...does anyone honestly think that the general public would EVER be allowed to know anything about it?

In 2018 this paper reframed a major chapter of computing history in a way that's more apparent and relevant today.

The paper traces the ideological roots of Seymour Papert's constructionism and Logo, as well as projects his work influenced such as Scratch and OLPC, to the MIT hacker culture. It also explains the fall from grace of the theory in the education world, but notably not in the technology world, as a consequence of that culture and its disconnect with the wider social implications.
