The Rats s/t (2008, #MississippiRecords)

This is Fred & Toody Cole’s band from before #DeadMoon, a reissue of their 1980 debut album. It’s very scrappy, primal, urgent-sounding and it makes you want to dance. Fred & Toody’s joint vocals are endearing, as usual. I haven’t listened to this record in far too long.

Starting the weekend off with a #MississippiRecords release from 2010, “Fanajana: A Collection of Recordings and Photography from Madagasikara” or Madagascar, as we call it. The first track is a heartfelt vocal duet by Noel & Isabelle. That was the song that moved me to add this record to my collection but the entire album is lovely—lilting acoustic tunes featuring traditional instruments which are photographed and drawn in the accompanying booklet. The music sounds natural and rural. On side two there’s even a moment of ambient sound recording—birds chirping and such.

Sick, I don’t think I have any music from Rawanda. Another gem from #MississippiRecords. I’m feeling the rhythm section. Good morning, people of the Fedi 🌞
