I just rewatched 'The Manitou' (1978), which was better in my memories than actuality.

Based on Graham Masterson's book, at least he took the subject matter seriously.

The movie? Not so much. It's got some great ideas though little atmosphere and despite exploring some really interesting ideas comes off more campy than scary.

And casting Michael Ansara as a Native American – he was born in Syria – wouldn't go over too well these days. #genre #horror #themanitou #michaelansara #movies
