I was just shocked to just find out - the hard way - that the Meross smart plug I bought 4 years ago has a dangerous wiring fault. When turned off, it disconnects neutral, and leaves hot live. So if you happen to bridge hot and ground with your hand - like when working inside your espresso machine - you’ll be shocked!

Of course, I could have just unplugged the machine entirely. But the plug lives behind the fridge, so I was lazy.

Or I could have used a voltage tester to be sure! But the light on the machine was off - that seemed conclusive. (The voltage tester did indicate voltage. Next time…)

I have a newer instance of the same model plug that doesn’t have this problem. So I filed a warranty claim with Meross, for the old one, even though I’m sure it’s out of the warranty period. This is/was dangerous.

Now I have to test the other two plugs…
