King Azoth. He may or may not be a real king from the past and his people, the pistrix, may or may not have ever had a monarchy.
Another of the characters (depiction may or may be not accurate ;) for our Fish Don't Cry project!

Deep-sea merfolk rarely encounter other merfolk and merfolk-adjacent species due to the depths at which they live: common merfolk live primarily in the epipelagic and mesopelagic zones (specifically, up to a maximum of 500 meters deep), pistrix live in the bathypelagic zone, from 1,000 to 4,000 meters deep, while deep-sea mermaids live in the abyssopelagic zone, between 4,000 and 7,000 meters deep.

Little bioluminescent creatures, their skin so thin one can see the rosiness of blood under, and behind them a huge, monstrous creature, her skin pitch black as if she was part of the abyss itself... it's their mama!
Baby deepsea merfolks are tiny and light up like fireflies of the deep, attracting predators... which tend to be smaller than their mothers, who are fully black, have a perfect control over their own photophores, and won't mind taking a bite out of the wannabe hunters. Mama's little lures โจ

(You may know the answer to this question!).
Say hi to the new character in the comic (and a key one too)! She's here to stay.
