> One of the first things I do when I’m mapping out how a game works is to label where it stores input data. I usually find this by diffing memory snapshots with #RALibetro’s Memory Inspector (see this article).

> Congo stores the most recently pressed button at address 06085974. I set a read breakpoint for that address in #Mednafen’s debugger to find what buttons the game is looking for. This led me to this function

Since modern #RetroGamingHandhelds are essentially small #Linux machines, I can set #Mednafen to take screenshots and put them in a folder that gets synced to a big PC. Neat!

Specifically, with #ROCKNIX on #RGCubeXX, I changed mednafen.cfg:

```
command.take_snapshot joystick 0x4ed02f893c2a5ffb0004001100000000 button_10 && joystick 0x4ed02f893c2a5ffb0004001100000000 button_1
filesys.path_snap /storage/roms/screenshots/
```

button_10 + button_1 = M + A, same as with Duckstation.

I've been using #mednaffe and I'm wondering if there's a way to add some curvature to the screen via shader or whatever so it looks even more like a CRT

#mednafen

i think i messed something up with mednaffe. i didn't realize how disc switching worked so i only just now have an m3u of the 4 discs of FF9 (wouldn't read the actual discs from my drive for some reason so i'm using cue/bin files).

so now i'm in a situation where i have a Final Fantasy IX (Disc 1) etc etc save… and a Final Fantasy IX (the m3u) save. i can't access my just-reached-the-end-of-disc-1 save when i open the m3u.

am i out of luck? do i need to replay disc 1? or is there some workaround? web search is not helping me

Okay…. I tried out #retroarch and it was a buggy mess for me.

I have installed #Mednaffe/ #mednafen and so far it has been good. The UI is lacking, but it plays the games well.

Hmm getting a PSX emulator in EmulationStation/RetroPie that doesn’t fall back to software on the Pi 5 seems tricky 😬 - anyone blazing a trail with emulation on the Pi 5 and know any secret incantations? #retropie #mednafen #Emulation

@analogue DUO did not want to let me re-enter a "dungeon", kept giving a black screen. So I had to use #pcengine emu #mednafen to get past this dungeon (a bit easier with save states). Now to copy over the save game and continue on the DUO tomorrow. Also, defeating the 1st black orchid got a nice animated cutscene, not so much with this second one...
