And I have sleeves! This dress, that I started on in 2001, now has sleeves that fit. It is too tight in the bust, but there's nothing that I can do about that, except lose weight. It needs a kirtle to wear under it, in these photos I have a modern cotton top under it.

I have done a scary thing today: cut out the pieces of a medieval gown on the bias , to make it diagonally striped, like the gown in the Buffalmacco fresco on the 2nd image .
To be sure that the pieces would fit I needed to make a full length mock-up, which I unpicked after fitting it to me, to get a pattern to lay out on the striped fabric. The wine red linen is actually going to be a ritual robe later.
