Pixel Art as Metaphor: Fighting Battles
This editorial illustration for About Health reimagines interventional radiology as a side-scrolling action game, with a miniature doctor running through the human body. Tumors and blockages are treated like in-game enemies, each requiring a different “weapon” to defeat. The pixel art style makes a complex medical topic feel accessible, playful, and easy to engage with.

Work in progress for an upcoming neuroanatomy project! 🧠

Just a sketch for now... There are probably still a few little anatomy errors, but, rest assured, it's being corrected.

Hope you like it anyway! ❤️

Major ankle ligaments done.

I created a separate file for the foot and ankle bones themselves so I can reuse it to create future illustrations: nerves, ligaments, tendons, muscles, whatever.

Ankle and foot template, medial view of the right foot.

Although I haven't illustrated anything at this level for a few months, it's like riding a bike when I resume. :)

Starting another series of joints for our new topic clusters for #massagefitmag

I haven't used #affinityphoto or do any #digitalart since May, and It took me a while to get used to the UI and the hang of it again.

So far so good. :)

One thing I've learned about illustrating #humananatomy, whether by hand or digitally, is how to depict something in a new way yet accurately.

I can't make stuff up yet the illustration should be revelent to the topic I'm working on.

For now, I'm sticking with the basics & be more boldly in the near future. :)
