#introduction Hi! I am demoth, new here.   Now sure what I will write here but I guess I will figure it our later.
I identify myself as an engineer, I like creating software and hardware. I'm interested in #gamedev (and ofc games), #diy #3dprinting #soldering #mechanicalkeyboards, learning #languages and making the world better in general.

#Question for all you #MechanicalKeyboards aficionados out there: #QWERTY or #Colemak Mod-DH?

Situation: my 10yo kid will begin mid-school in September and wants my #ErgoDash (see picture) for his own computer (that I still have to buy!).
ErgoDash is currently configured with a QWERTY layout, customized with Italian accented letters as per picture.
Should I reconfigure it to Colemak Mod-DH, instead, before giving him the keeb?

The first picture shows my daily keyboard. It was done as temporary and serves me for over a year. But slowly dies.

The second picture is a WIP layout for the new one. Still will be cheap, but with PCB, hotswap switches and case. There will be encoder in top right corner.

Have to think what else to change in it. Suggestions anyone?

Low profile, silent but tactile switches. Do they exist?

Low profile, silent but tactile switches. Do they exist? - Lemmy.World

Hello! I’ve recently began my rabbit-hole-into-mechanical-keyboard world* and I got an Epomaker LUMA 100. I didn’t like the switches that came with it, so I got a pack of gateron ks33 banana & ks33 red. Turns out the pins on these don’t fit (left pin is lower than the right). So, any recommendations? Office has open floorplan so I’m hoping for as quiet as possible while still being able to feel the keys. *I could write a novel here but won’t haha. I’ve been using a Logitech k850 for years but wished they made a Bluetooth backlit one.

Ha, the disappointment when security check your bag, and you realise they ask about *that* thing only for security reasons, not because they're into ergonomic #MechanicalKeyboards.

Mad Men and Satisfying Switches

Mad Men and Satisfying Switches - Lemmy.World

This may be a slightly off topic rant… My wife has been watching Mad Men and I’ll watch it too if I’m in the room. One thing that continues to strike me over and over is how satisfying all the switches and car doors and buttons are. There is a scene is season two where Draper sits at his desk at home and switches on a lamp. The sound it makes and the amount of travel his finger has while punching in the switch is so satisfying. A real ca-chunk. Every time some closes a car door or hangs up a phone the sound and the look of it is so… just satisfying. It reminds me of when I replaced all the devices in a home I used to own. I used 20amp motor rated switches on all the lights switches because I just love the hard tactile feel and sound they make. Like when that switch closes, you KNOW it’s closed. You don’t need to guess. Everything is a god damn touch screen now. I miss buttons. Anyway, this is why I like mechanical keyboards.
