Matthew Perry’s personal assistant sentenced to 3 years and 5 months in prison for his role in the overdose death of the “Friends” star.

Kenneth Iwamasa, 60 years old, was sentenced Wednesday, May 27th, by a federal court in Los Angeles to three years and five months in prison for his role in Matthew Perry’s death by overdose, the famous star of the television series “Friends.” Iwamasa was present with the actor in the last days of his life, in October 2023: he himself injected him with the lethal dose of ketamine and found him lifeless in the jacuzzi of his residence.

During the investigation, the man chose to cooperate with justice, becoming the main witness for the prosecution. Iwamasa is the last of the five defendants to have pleaded guilty in the legal proceedings related to the actor’s disappearance, who died at the age of 54.

“Instead of helping him to get out of it, Iwamasa was contributing to supplying drugs to Perry,” the Court wrote in the sentence, describing a “conspiracy” involving five people, all now convicted. In the last weeks of the actor’s life, the group supplied ketamine for over $50,000 to the “Friends” star, who was described in internal chats as “this idiot.”

In a letter to the court, the actor’s mother, Suzanne Morrison, accused the assistant of “killing my son,” arguing that he could have sought help from people close to Perry instead of continuing to supply drugs. Madeline Morrison, the sister, also spoke of a “betrayal” towards the family. On the defense’s part, a lighter sentence of six months in prison and six months of house arrest was requested, arguing that Iwamasa had acted following the actor’s instructions and feared losing his job if he refused.

According to investigators, Kenneth Iwamasa earned $150,000 a year and had known Matthew Perry since 1992, becoming his live-in assistant in 2022. The prosecution argues that he was aware of the actor’s long battle with addiction and that he had also been warned by doctors about the risks of self-administering ketamine.
