Modern Marriage: Why Do I Crave a Female Led Relationship?

From the moment I stepped into adulthood, I felt the subtle but ever-present whisper: “He comes first.” Maybe you know that voice too. It’s society’s voice, echoing in the corner of work, marriage…

Evolving Your Man
May 17, 2004 - Marcia Kadish, 56, and Tanya McCloskey, 52, of Malden, Massachusetts, were married at Cambridge City Hall in Massachusetts, becoming the first legally married same-sex partners in the United States. Over the course of the day, 77 other such couples tied the knot across the state, and hundreds more applied for marriage licenses. The day was characterized by much celebration and only a few of the expected protests materialized.

#California became the second state in the USA to grant #MarriageEquality to #gay & #lesbian couples on #ThisDayInHistory in 2008 through its Supreme Court, which ruled that a 2000 ballot measure that banned it (and which, sadly, passed with 61% of the vote) was unconstitutional.

🕯️ On This Day in LGBTQ+ History: May 7 ⚠️ May 7, 1996: Hawaii lawmakers advance constitutional response against marriage equality On May 7, 1996, Hawaii lawmakers intensified efforts to amend the state constitution in response to court rulings that suggested same sex couples could have a constitutional right to marry. The legislative push sought to give the state explicit authority to reserve marriage for opposite sex couples only. At the time, Hawaii had become the center of the national marriage equality debate following the landmark Baehr v. Lewin case. By early May 1996, political momentum had shifted toward restricting LGBTQ rights through constitutional means, influencing lawmakers across the United States. Effects on the local community 🕯️Same sex couples faced renewed uncertainty about recognition of their relationships 🕯️Public debate intensified, bringing increased scrutiny and stigma to LGBTQ families R🕯️eligious and political campaigns mobilized against LGBTQ equality statewide 🕯️National opposition groups used Hawaii as a model for similar restrictions elsewhere May 7 serves as a context date marking when constitutional mechanisms were increasingly used to block marriage equality before it could expand nationwide. Who worked to defend and respond National organizations such as Lambda Legal, the ACLU, and the Human Rights Campaign supported litigation and public education surrounding marriage equality. In Hawaii, local advocacy groups including EQUALITY HAWAII INC and community activists organized outreach efforts, coalition building, and voter engagement to defend LGBTQ rights. These early legal and political battles laid important groundwork for the broader national movement that ultimately achieved marriage equality in 2015. #LGBTQHistory #MarriageEquality #CivilRights #LGBTQHawaii
