"La madrugada—daybreak—a word that always left honey in her mouth."
Marge Piercy, Woman on the Edge of Time

The poem The Low Road by Marge Piercy is well worth reading at any time but perhaps especially now. 🙂
It expands on your comment very well -- and reminds us that resistance is a broad path (rather than the singular notion of sending kids to die in the meat-grinder of hot war).
Here's one of many places that hosts a copy:
"Sybil really did think she was a witch, that she could heal with herbs, that she could cast spells both black and white. They'd had an argument last time about those names. Connie had told Sybil that black magic for bad and white for good were racist terms. Finally Sybil had agreed to name the magics red, for blood vengeance, and green, for growing and healing."

A day late for #Caturday but a poem well worth sharing: "The Cat's Song" by Marge Piercy https://poetrying.wordpress.com/2015/01/09/the-cats-song-marge-piercy/
Excerpt:
"Come I will teach you to dance as naturally
as falling asleep and waking and stretching long, long.
I speak greed with my paws and fear with my whiskers.
Envy lashes my tail. Love speaks me entire, a word
of fur."

Piercy's 1970s work anticipates and moves forward today's attitudes on gender and sexuality, environment and lifestyle, though the story itself struggles to align itself with that significance.

Piercy's psychological time-travel look challenges 1970s consumerism and mores; but for all our progress, she might well be writing of us 50 years later.

This is cyberpunk at its best. Marge Piercy’s He, She, and It does everything that sci-fi should: warns about what is to come, and ties it to what has been.
