No Peace to Be Found Among Warmongers – NDFP

The recent news that US President Donald Trump has invited Marcos Jr. to sit on his so-called “board of peace” is beyond absurd. There is no peace to be found among warmongers and mass murderers. What both Trump and Marcos Jr. represent instead is the peace of the graveyard marked by the silence enforced by bombs, bullets, and a climate of fear and impunity.

Trump’s attempt to posture himself as a “peacemaker” is exposed by his own record of unabashed US warmongering from military aggression and regime-change operations in Syria, Venezuela, and Iran, to his brazen threats against Greenland and even Canada, In the United States, Trump has unleashed brutal attacks against immigrants, and activists, criminalizing dissent and stoking racist violence, further isolating himself alongside a government of loyal sycophants.

Under the Marcos Jr. regime, at least 48,200 people, mostly peasants and indigenous communities, have been forcibly displaced as a result of relentless aerial bombardment and intensified “counterinsurgency” operations across the Philippine countryside. At least 15 individuals have been forcibly disappeared, while more are killed including NDFP peace panel consultants and negotiators. At least 134 civilians have been murdered, including children and women, as the fascist Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) continues indiscriminate bombings and ground operations that violate international humanitarian law.

Far from pursuing genuine peace, the Marcos Jr. regime has consistently refused to address the roots of armed conflict – chronic landlessness, joblessness, and poverty.  Decades of failed agrarian reform programs have left millions of farmers landless, with 7 out of 10 farmers still unable to own the land they till, and condemned instead to semifeudal and feudal forms of exploitation. Workers’ wages are virtually stagnant. In 2025, incomes rose a measly 7.5%, far below the skyrocketing inflation of basic goods and necessities, effectively eroding real incomes and pushing more families into hunger and debt. Instead of confronting these structural injustices, Marcos Jr. has chosen the familiar path of militarization and fascist repression, branding any form of dissent as “terrorism.”

It is therefore no wonder that more and more Filipinos are joining the armed struggle in the countryside. Much like his father, Marcos Jr. has increasingly groomed himself as the number one recruiter of the New People’s Army.

That Marcos Jr. now finds himself embraced by Trump comes also as no surprise. Marcos Jr. has proven himself a loyal lapdog of US imperialism, faithfully implementing Trumps’ military, economic and geopolitical agenda. Recently, the US itself revealed the formation of a new permanent ground force in the country: the so-called “Army Rotational Force Philippines” further confirming the accelerated militarization being carried out under Marcos Jr.’s watch. This new US troop deployment exists alongside other US units such as Task Force Philippines and the Marine Rotational Force – Southeast Asia, signaling a state of perpetual US military presence on Philippine soil. This expansion also coincides with the deployment of US Typhon mid-range missile systems last year, the use of US drones, establishment of additional EDCA bases, and plans for over 500 large-scale military exercises involving more than ten thousand foreign troops in 2026 alone.

The farce of Marcos Jr.’s inclusion in Trump’s so-called “board of peace” is a futile PR tactic to launder the crimes of warmakers and US puppets. A harbinger of war, Marcos Jr. recklessly drags the Philippines closer to catastrophic US conflict with China out of his desperation to please Trump and his imperialist patrons.

Marcos Jr. is increasingly isolated. Recent impeachment complaints filed against him reflect the widespread people’s outrage over his regime’s brazen corruption and betrayal of the Filipino masses. The reactionary Philippine Congress may have blocked these actions to impeach Marcos Jr., but they cannot suppress the growing, uncontainable anger of the Filipino people.

Balikatan 2025 turns Philippines into launchpad for US war—NDFP

April 21, 2025

The National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) denounced this year’s Balikatan military exercises as a dangerous escalation of US military intervention in the country, warning that the drills are transforming the Philippines into a staging ground for regional war.

With more than 14,000 US and Philippine troops participating in operations spanning Luzon, Palawan, and areas near Taiwan, the NDFP said Balikatan 2025 goes far beyond routine training. At the center of this year’s exercises is the US Marine Corps’ Marine Littoral Regiment (MLR), a rapid deployment force designed for island-hopping warfare aimed at confronting China in the South China Sea.

“This is no longer a joint training exercise—it is full-spectrum preparation for war,” the NDFP said in a statement. “Contrary to US claims, this war machine does not defend—it consumes. And it is using the Filipino people as its fuel.”

The group warned that new weapons systems being field-tested in the country—such as the NMESIS coastal missile platform—signal a shift toward a “first-strike posture” that threatens to draw the Philippines into a conflict between major powers. The presence of these weapons, the NDFP said, turns the archipelago into a launchpad for US military provocations, increasing the risk of retaliatory strikes from China.

“The cost of these war games will not be paid by Washington, but by Filipino communities who may find themselves in the crossfire,” the statement said.

The NDFP also criticized the use of Humanitarian Civic Assistance (HCA) programs, saying these are being used to normalize the US military presence while enabling the construction of infrastructure and the prepositioning of supplies within Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites. These same areas, the group noted, are also experiencing intensified militarization and operations targeting peasant and indigenous communities.

“Under the guise of development, the US is embedding itself deeper into our territory and aiding in counterinsurgency operations against the Filipino people,” the NDFP said.

The group condemned the Marcos Jr. administration for expanding US military access to Philippine territory, likening his actions to those of his father, who allowed the presence of US military bases during his fascist dictatorship.

“By opening more EDCA sites and giving the US military broader access, Marcos Jr. has surrendered more of our land and seas to foreign control,” the statement read.

“The people’s armed resistance remains the most effective means to assert national sovereignty and genuine democracy in the face of imperialist aggression and local tyranny,” the NDFP concluded.

Reject the Balikatan exercises, dismantle the US war machine!

This year’s iteration of the Balikatan however has morphed into a full-blown machinery of war staging, with the Philippines increasingly shackled to the gears of US-led aggression against its imperialist rival China. Contrary to US claims, this war machine does not defend—it consumes. And it is using the Filipino people as its fuel.

US-Backed Philippine Government Committed War Crimes, People’s Tribunal Finds

The Philippine government carried out atrocities against Filipinos with direction, arms and training from the US.

ScheerPost

The US-led Balikatan war exercises present a clear and impending threat to the lives of the Filipino people as Marcos Jr. willingly surrenders the country to become a staging point for US military aggression against China. Under the guise of “routine military operations,” these war games form part of a broader strategy of US imperialist warmongering and reckless brinkmanship tactics.

The US government’s aggressive posturing in the region is guided by its first island chain strategy aimed at encircling China by establishing a US-controlled ‘defense’ perimeter stretching from the Kuril Islands, Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Northern Philippines, and to Borneo. In the current context of brewing inter-imperialist conflict, the island chain strategy seeks to constrain China’s maritime expansion and limit its influence in the Asia-Pacific region. By fortifying key islands and maritime chokepoints, the US aims to create a buffer zone that would not only impede China’s access to strategic waters, but also set the ground for the US to constantly “test the waters” and provoke China into firing the first shot.

Should China fire the first shot, the US plans to invoke the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) it has with the Philippines to further justify escalated US military actions in the region.

The Balikatan exercises this year, the biggest in history with more than 11,000 US troops participating, serve as a visible display of military force intended to send a clear message to China – that the US is ready for war. These exercises seek to project the combined military strength of the US and its participating allies France and Australia.

The Balikatan exercises have also been expanded and intensified in response to perceived Chinese aggression in the South China Sea, serving as pretext for the US to continue pushing the boundaries by stationing warships closer and closer to China’s doorsteps. The so-called “supply missions” of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to the ‘stranded’ BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal represent a calculated move by the US to justify continued war provocations. On the other hand, Marcos Jr. effectively abdicates Philippine sovereignty in exchange of imperialist favor by allowing troops to be stationed closer to Chinese territory, further cementing its status as a puppet regime.

The repeated visits of US security officials, including the likes of US State Secretary Anthony Blinken to the Philippines last March serve to ensure continued subservience from the Marcos Jr. government and the AFP. In the same breath, the recently concluded trilateral summit between the US, Japan and the Philippines revealed Biden’s true militarist intention to rally its allies and puppet regimes in the region to march in lockstep with US war designs in Asia. Talks are already underway for another ‘visiting forces agreement’ between the Philippines and Japan. On top of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) which creates legal pretext for US military bases in the Philippines, allowing Japanese forces to set foot on Philippine soil will add more US-allied troops to maintain their presence in service of US war preparations.

In addition, the introduction of the new Philippine Enhanced Resilience Act (PERA Act) in the US Senate seeks to smoothen politico-economic restructuring needed to allow continued US military presence in the Philippines. Through the proposed provision of $2.5 billion in foreign military funding to the Philippines, the bill ensures continued alignment of the AFP with US foreign policy objectives while allowing access to strategic resources in the Philippine archipelago.

Upon US imperialist prodding, the Marcos Jr. regime further stokes the flames of inter-imperialist war by capitalizing on the Filipino public’s anger towards China to justify continued provocations. By overemphasizing China’s “grey tactics” in the contested waters of the South China Sea, the US seeks to manufacture consent for its warmongering agenda, all at the expense of the lives of the Filipino masses which will be the first threatened should an all-out war break out between US and China.

It is abundantly clear that the US intends to use Marcos and the AFP as proxies to intensify confrontations and instigate Chinese armed reaction. The AFP’s new deadline to defeat the New People’s Army (which they now failed to meet yet again) serves the US agenda of pivoting the reactionary armed forces to ‘territorial defense’.

US military interventions in the Philippines is bound to intensify fueled by Biden’s failures in its NATO-assisted war against Russia and its continued support for Zionist Israel’s genocidal crusade in Palestine. Biden’s desperate bid for reelection on November this year provides further motivation for the US to spark a new warfront in Asia by way of instigating conflict with China and portraying Biden as the ‘defender of small nations.’ To this effect, the US propaganda machine is working doubly to portray Marcos Jr. as the ‘new Zelensky’ which seeks to obscure and distort the reality of US imperialist aggression and warmongering.

In the face of the growing threat of US military intervention in the Philippines and war provocations against China, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines International Office (NDFP IO) joins all national democratic organizations, anti-war groups and peace-loving peoples in resisting and condemning these actions unequivocally.

US Hands Off the Philippines!
