“Literally a million fascinating cartographic artifacts are held in this sprawling university collection…
Within the campus University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a geographer’s treasure trove: More than a million artifacts from the American Geographical Society, one of the most incredible collections of maps, atlases, and globes to be found anywhere in America.
It’s an inconspicuous home for such a storied collection: This is the final resting place of the library of the illustrious American Geographical Society…”

Flashback to a few days ago when I went with our Masters' students to visit the fantastically rich and somewhat chaotic map collection at the Geneva library, including the unique Elisée Reclus / Charles Perron collection assembled as background to writing Reclus' "Géographie Universelle".
Lots of open access maps in good file formats here if you want a taste: http://institutions.ville-geneve.ch/fr/bge/collections/cartes-et-plans/presentation/
