At tonight's meeting of the Finnegans Wake Reading Group in Basel, we came across one of the many triplets based on the initials of the novel's main character, Humphrey Chimpden Earwicker: "hallucination, cauchman, ectoplasm" (133.24). Last year, I made two tie-dye T-shirts with expressions from the Wake on them
When I'm tempted by music gear I don't need, I have to resort to this mantra:
"Gear is the mind-killer. Gear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my gear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the gear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
