#SLS (2nd one) “Turn Around”

me, dad, brother I'm about halfway through the videos and this song came to mind for the prompt of Dads. Not sure how many of you remember this song from a Kodak tv commercial, but I remember thinking of it on the playground when in elementary school. If this song doesn't get you smackdab in the feels, you have no heart. I miss my dad. "Little Boxes" is a song written and composed by #MalvinaReynolds in 1962. The song was first released by her friend, #PeteSeeger, in 1963, and became his only charting single in January 1964. The song is a #socialSatire about the development of #suburbia and associated #conformist #middleclass attitudes. It mocks suburban #tractHousing as "little boxes" of different colors "all made out of ticky-tacky" and which "all look just the same".

Today in Labor History August 23, 1900: Folk and protest singer Malvina Reynolds was born in San Francisco, California. She is most famous for her song, "Little Boxes," a satire on suburbia, inspired by the tacky sprawl of housing in Daly City, just outside of San Francisco. And used as the theme music for the TV series “Weeds.” As a teen, the city’s elite Lowell High School refused to give her a diploma because her parents opposed US participation in World War I.

I am not a big Ani DiFranco fan but I thought her style lent itself to “My Name Is Liza Kalvelage,” a song more relevant now than perhaps even when it was written. https://youtu.be/XIqNYxBct1c?si=4KdECjyzJr_EmQEk #protest #ProtestMusic #AniDiFranco #MalvinaReynolds
