For this weekend of #postmarketOS #linuxmobile #mainlining I have put together what I had for the Moto G7 into a coherent pull request to @barni2000's msm8953 branch. No exciting pictures since nothing visually changed :) just that you will be able to install it too very soon!
Some progress, I've ported those changes to the latest #uboot, will upload a working repo to gitlab soon.
Also finally worked out how to actually boot a kernel I've compiled. Ran I to an error when just using `bootm` - `FDT and ATAGS support not compiled in`, it took me a while to work out that I had to include the dtb as well.
I've now reached: `Starting kernel ...` but unsurprisingly it stops there, now need to make an actually functioning kernel. It's tricky as it's a balance of a working kernel and a working device tree, my plan was to use the one I have for u-boot as a starting point as it's very basic

Affe NullOf course, making this a real alternative would still require a lot of work and collaboration. Is there any demand for this in the #MobileLinux #mainlining community and would anyone be interested in porting it to their own hardware? A lot of us could benefit from a joined effort like this, especially if this means that kernel drivers only need to be written once and vendor-specific differences can be abstracted away or removed entirely. 4/4
Farooq | فاروق [Master Patata]Hey. If you've got a #Kobo #ebookreader, I will appreciate if you could extract some information from your device. Currently, I'm contributing to #postmarketOS wiki. Since #onyxboox refuses to release the kernel source code for its devices, I am trying to gather information about different ebook readers with #eink panel. So if someone wanted to mainline a #boox device, they could use drivers from Kobo since they release the kernel source code.
I would really hate my #booxleaf to become useless, because onyx does not give updates anymore nor it releases the kernel source code so the community can provide an alternative OS or ROM. By doing so, not only onyx contributes to #ewaste. But also forces users to change devices like every 2-3 years. Even when the device is working good. Like me device. Needless to mention #GPLViolation here.
I will post about me plans, later, God willing. For now, I am optimistic about mainlining me device and also #BooxPage. Because both use Snapdragon which has good support in mainline, it's an ebook reader so you don't need to add support for modem and GPU, and the Carta 1200 screen used in these two devices are also used in other e-book readers such as Kobo.
