It's taken many years, but I've gotten my wife to use the word "#Mandarin" (#華語) in place of "#Chinese" (#中文) and to stop saying "#mainland" (#大陸)… most of the time. Teach by example. 😄

They got many #Taiwanese 🇳🇫 to go "#Vichy" by giving them cushy jobs with good pay and status. #Indigenous Taiwanese were also co-opted and strongly support the KMT to this day. The KMT also #brainwashed Taiwanese into believing that they were protecting them from the #Commies 🇨🇳 and that they were "#Chinese" and the "#one_China" that would retake the (so-called) "#mainland."

There’s a nice walk on the west from Cowes, and indeed around the whole island (that’s around 110 km long). From this part you can see the #Mainland. Here, once again, is #Portsmouth with the #SpinakerTower visible. Even over a distance of something like 10-15 km, note that the base of the tower can’t be seen as it’s over the horizon (yes folks, the Earth is round!).

The town of #Cowes on the north side of the #IsleOfWight functions as the main #port for passengers from the #Mainland. It is bisected by the mouth of the #RiverMedina, which forms a cleft in the #Island. To cross from one side to the other, instead of the #bridge, the town has a small #Ferry guided by chains, which works all day and late into the evening to transfer pedestrians and road users from one side to the other.

We were lucky that that was the only wet day of our stay and a couple of days later, you can see both the vehicle and passenger #Ferries leaving the dock at #Cowes, which service the #island from the English #Mainland.
