Prickly pear flower.
In the 15th century, the prickly pear arrived in Sicily from Central and South America. Among the rocks and lava soils, it found its ideal habitat on the slopes of Mount Etna, becoming the perfect match for the classic Sicilian landscape. Its symbolic fruit, the prickly pear, is the full expression of what it means to live in this land: adapting to different conditions and overcoming thorny obstacles, only to taste an unexpected sweetness.

As we hiked along the slopes of Mount Etna, we saw several birds flying high above us. It was hard to tell what kind of birds they were. One flew over our heads, and my camera clicked. Later, looking at the photos, I saw it was a falcon holding a small mouse in one paw. The falcon had its mouth open, ready to swallow the mouse.

I had never really given it much thought how difficult it is to actually take off to go paragliding. Some managed to take off in one go, but there were also a few of them that needed more attempts. Respect that it seemed to work out for all of them as far as I noticed. 😊
