The term "vortical marketing" (or something similar) occurred to me at some point while watching earlier episodes of Madoka Magica, which is (among other things) a story about a gigantic whirlwind.
Walpurgisnacht descends in the center of a vast supercyclone, a convenient disguise you might say for a magical entity that's shown up to blight a modern (indeed, a futuristic) Japanese city.
The Incubator supplies exposition, or sales patter (it's about the same thing, from the Incubators) which tells us that Walpurgisnacht and other great Witches in the universe of #MadokaMagica are frequently mistaken for disasters which are regarded as routine, like horrific storms. The outside world sees only a vortex of destruction and reaches a comfortable, familiar conclusion about what caused it. How many people can tell you they've spent significant time in the center of a tornado?
