I currently have to use a #Windows11 PC with #Office365 for a side gig. And holy crap, does that put all my (still valid, IMHO) complaining about #macOS26 and #LiquidGlass into perspective.

There is so much wrong with Windows’ interaction design, I just cannot comprehend how a company with that kind of resources can ship… this.

I still hope that Apple will get their act together, now that an actual #UX whiz is in charge of their #HCI. Windows, though, definitely is no viable alternative.

DVD am MacBook Neo – ein Praxistest mit Überraschungen Macs ohne eingebautes optisches Laufwerk gibt es seit 2012 – das letzte Modell mit DVD-Laufwerk hat Apple bereits 2016 aus dem Programm genommen: das MacBook Pro 13 Zoll von 2012. Doch was passiert, wenn man 2026 unter macOS 26 Tahoe einfach ein externes DVD-Laufwerk anschließt? #Macwelt-Autor Stephan Wiesend hat das beim neuen #MacBookNeo ausprobiert – und ist positiv überrascht: Ein altes externes DVD-Laufwerk von LG wird sofort erkannt, und eine als Test eingelegte Film-DVD startet problemlos mit dem DVD-Player. Dabei zeigt Apple eine bemerkenswerte Interface-Logik: An einem Mac ohne DVD-Laufwerk werden alle Brenn- und Audio-CD-Funktionen automatisch ausgeblendet – erst wenn ein Laufwerk angeschlossen wird, erscheinen die entsprechenden Optionen im System. Weniger ist also mehr, solange man das richtige Zubehör dabei hat. Auch #Audio-CDs lassen sich mit der App Musik problemlos rippen. Einzige Einschränkung: Das #iPad bleibt außen vor – externe optische Laufwerke werden dort nicht erkannt. Fazit des Tests: Apple wird die Unterstützung für diese Medien wohl noch sehr lange bieten – auch wenn Rohlinge und physische Datenträger im Alltag längst von Cloud-Diensten und USB-Sticks verdrängt wurden. Did I run into a "neat" feature of macOS Tahoe? What I'm about to describe hasn't happened on macOS prior to Tahoe.

I run an external thunderbolt display (not Apple's) through a thunderbolt hub into my MacBook Air. I got the dialog asking to allow the hub to connect to my Mac, which is not unexpected. But the thunderbolt display didn't get any signal. I have a second display connected using DisplayPort via the hub that worked fine.

I ended up connecting the thunderbolt display directly to my Mac, got a dialog asking to allow it to connect, and it worked fine. Then I moved the cable back to the hub and it continues to work.

So it seems Tahoe asked for permission for the hub, but stopped there and didn't ask for permission for other things on the same thunderbolt bus. Egad.

@NetNewsWire As a very good Mac app I constantly expect actions from the Share-button on an article to be accessible through Spotlight on #macos26. Since these actions are not in the menu, I can’t, and am forced to use the cursor. Is it on the roadmap to integrate the Share-button into the menu (and thus into Spotlight)?

I to w zasadzie wszystko, co można o nich napisać. Nie ma póki co zgłoszeń na temat nowych funkcji czy widocznych zmian. Apple zapewne skupiło się przede wszystkim na wyeliminowaniu kolejnych błędów i optymalizacji działania.
