The process is ongoing all the time; sawing the wooden bases, sanding, finishing the edges, priming with gesso, attaching the hanger and only then do we get to the actual painting. In this picture, that round birch plywood has been sanded and is waiting for the first layer of gesso to dry. I usually apply 2-3 coats of primer depending on the situation. Of course, you can do other work while it's drying... ✌️☺️🥰

Kun korostan työprosessini hitautta, en tarkoita, että lepäisin laakereillani tekemättä mitään... /sanotaankohan se noin englanniksi... Koko ajan on prosessi käynnissä; puupohjien sahaaminen, hiominen, reunojen viimeistely, pohjamaalaus gessolla, ripustuksen kiinnitys ja vasta sitten päästään itse varsinaiseen maalaamiseen. Tässä kuvassa tuo pyöreä koivuvaneri on hiottu ja se odottaa ensimmäisen gessokerroksen kuivumista. Laitan yleensä 2-3 pohjustusta tilanteen mukaan. Kuivumisaikana voi tietenkin taas tehdä muita hommia... ✌️☺️🥰

Tästä homma käynnistyy: on valittu sopivan kokoinen koivuvanerinen maalauspohja (riittävän paksu, jotta se ei kuivuessaan mene kieroon), hiottu se ja nyt aletaan laittaa kiinnityslanka (rautalanka) teoksen taakse.
Seuraavaksi pohjustus gessolla kaksi kertaa. Kun pohjustukset on kuivuneet, sitten päästään maalaamaan ensimmäinen aluskerros öljyväreillä. Tästä teoksesta tulee pyöreä.

Next comes two layers of gesso. Once the priming has dried, I can start painting the first underlayer with oil paints. This piece will be round.”
