Today the MMF failed to show they couldn't pay their child and family service workers fairly. They wanted to pay them unfairly. I don't usually support non Indigenous unions meddling in Indigenous affairs, but the only way to deal with a bully is to be a bigger bully. So, congratulations to the workers caring for Métis children and families. Shame on the MMF. Way to promulgate the image that MMF leadership are all about money and control. Way to go on that. 😕

“Blending poetry, storytelling, and community voices, the presentation weaves together reflections on identity, agency, power, and belonging within therapeutic contexts. By centering Indigenous knowledge systems alongside Western mental health frameworks, Délani invites a reimagining of care that honors both tradition and self-determined healing.”

Colloquium Series | Arts and Humanities | Vancouver Island University | Canada

Since its beginning in 2009, the Arts and Humanities Colloquium Series has engendered conversations about ideas among members of the Arts and Humanities Faculty and their communities both at VIU and in the mid-Island region. Our presenters have shown how important the arts and humanities are to understanding today’s world.

Starting at 10AM! This month's A&H Colloquium presentation is from Metis VIU Alumni Delani Valin.

“I can’t believe it. Those are our cousins…. I hate the thought that we are going to have this fight...nobody’s going to push us around. Not as long as I’m your president. Never.”

“We can’t be worried about a political party that gets elected that may not like us or want to do anything with us…. So we’ve got to get ready for the next round… We need to see the future, and we need to take control of that future.”

“procession talks about honouring those who've come before and making a space for those after. And that's really the premise of the whole book. How to be in that space in the middle.”

New collection examines the continuum of life through the intimacy of poetry

Métis writer Katherena Vermette says it is “incredibly humbling” when she considers that she’s here for only a finite amount of time.“When we think about what's most important, it ends up being our loved ones; those we care for and we'll leave behind when we pass from this plane. The idea of legacy. And we also come from a great legacy. We're many, many centuries into this. So, we're coming from something and building something out. It does feel incredibly humbling,” she said.
