Luminate lights up Margam Country Park for sixth year

A showstopper among the lights

Among the features highlighted this season is a display of 6,000 illuminated roses, previously shown at Sandringham. Organisers say the flowers are programmed to change colour in time with music, creating one of the trail’s standout moments.

Visitors are invited to weave through the Orangery gardens, where projections light up the castle walls and a narrated version of ’Twas the Night Before Christmas plays out among fireflies. Interactive elements include giant piano keys and a “naughty or nice” game, while fire pits along the route offer the chance to toast marshmallows and sip mulled wine.

Voices behind the trail

Janine Maycock, from the Luminate team, said:

“The trail is different each season, so there is always a surprise. We can’t wait to welcome people back to Margam at this magical time of year.”

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Cabinet Member for Nature, Tourism and Wellbeing, Cllr Cen Phillips, described the event as “a highlight of our cultural calendar,” drawing both local residents and visitors to enjoy an annual festive tradition.

More than just lights

Organisers also point to illuminated swings, a Make a Wish wall where visitors can leave messages, and dedicated evenings for dog‑friendly visits and those with Special Educational Needs. They say the trail is accessible to wheelchairs, mobility scooters and pushchairs.

Luminate states that it donates tickets to charities including Carers Trust Wales, Inclusability and Something to Look Forward To, and works with Ecologi to offset carbon, claiming to have planted almost 84,000 trees to date.
