David HembrowEaster is unfortunately a mass pollution event in the Netherlands because of the tradition of Easter fires here, so it's especially important to have a decent air filter system on this weekend.
Therefore it's air filter day in our household.
For some time I've been filtering inbound air in our home through a Philips FY0194 HEPA filter. This is the same type as used in our portable AC819 air cleaners. The filter worked very well for this use, but over a year it has become full of dust and the air flow was obviously a bit restricted.
Today I've replaced the Philips filter with an Ikea Starkvind filter, with a new construction using a box instead of the filter being attached as it was previously. The same fan is drawing air through the system as before.
The Starkvind filter costs β¬12 and offers a 15% greater active filter area than the Philips filter which now costs a slightly absurd β¬30. So this will reduce the annual cost quite a lot for the price of a bit of DIY.
I also cleaned the filters in our Philips AC0819 air filters. They don't dirty as quickly as the one which all the air comes through, but they do collect a fair bit of dust and fluff which I swept and blew off in the garden.
